I want a processor or receiver with pre-outs

I have been scoping out some receivers with preouts and some processors to find the best deal. First priority is music, so no sacrifices can be made with 2 channel sound. I already have an older Rotel Pre/pro with pro-logic and no 5.1 analog input. I don't want to make a step down in stereo quality. It either goes up or stays about the same, if possible.

I also have a Carver 5 channel amplifier that I will continue to use if I get a receiver or processor. One of my questions is, especially concerning Outlaw's receiver and processor which are only $200 apart, I was wondering if they use the same processor. Both units have all the same appearance and inputs, and it seems to me the for $200 more I could have the internal amplifiers if I decide to use them for something.

Here is what I have looked at so far, no listening experiance with them just internet research.

Rotel RSP-1068 (MSRP:$1699)
Rotel RSX-1057 receiver w/preouts(MSRP:$1499)
Adcom GFR-700 receiver w/preouts(MSRP:$1999)
Adcom GTP-870HD(MSRP:$2499)
Outlaw Model 970 (MSRP:$699)
Outlaw Model 990 (MSRP:$1099)
Outlaw Model 1070 receiver w/preouts (MSRP:$899)
NAD T743 receiver w/preouts 5.1 only (MSRP:$699)

I just want some opinions on these and any other make and model you think meet the needs.

Some side notes, HDMI doesn't concern me and I have no set budget (though I won't likely spend much more that $1000 unless I think that it is something completely awesome.)

Check out NAD gear. A great bang for the buck & they have built their reputation on "music" first as their philosophy when designing their gear. I have the NAD T773 receiver & would highly recommend it or any other NAD product. All the other companies you listed also have excellent products. Looks like you have your homewrok cut out for you.

I think I like the T743, it is only a 5.1 model, but it has preouts. It has a MSRP:$699. The Outlaw 770 has more features, aside from the amp, at the same price. So now it is likely between the Outlaw 770 or the 1070 and the NAD T743. Are there anymore suggestions, I would like to keep this as cheap as possible, as I only plan on using 5.1.

I'm in the same situation as you... basically, I'm looking for a pre-amp at a low price with the following features:
-Pre-outs for an amp
-Component video switching and up-conversion
-Second room capability (amp and pre-out)
-Inputs for SACD and DVD-audio
-Higher end video and sound processing

Currently, I'm looking very seriously at a Denon 1907... it has all of these features and a few others. I'm not concerned with HDMI capabilities since my TV isn't capable; also I'd prefer to wait (maybe a couple of years) for some sort of standard before I start upgrading my stuff to HDMI. I think at that time, I'll probably go with a pre-amp with full HDMI capabilities and upgrade my TV at the same time. This Denon can be had for around $350 online.

This option seems to be much less expensive than others you're considering, and leaves with some spare change. I'm thinking that I'll use this spare change for a high-end DVD/SACD/DVD-audio player and a nice remote control with RF capabilities.

Let me know your thoughts!

-Eddie

It would be a good deal for the price, I am just not sure it would sound better with music than my Rotel. I really have to think hard now.
