HAHA!

Really though, would it be possible to spend half a mil on a home theatre?

What would one use?

Why would one do this...lol?

considering the Krell heat speaker, pre/pro and amps combo is $350,000 alone. It would be very easy to spend 500K on a System...

Heck you could spend 5 million on a Theater system if you wanted easily...lol, And that is before even building the room to put it in.

Buy a Bose Lifestyle system and a cheap TV. Give me the rest of the money to come to your home and set it up. I'll bring my own beer.:D

Well, a couple of Phillips HDTV would be first on my list. The rest would be for the speakers and other stuff. I'm still thinking of where to put up the theater though.

Well, I guess I could start with a Runco SC-1 projector for $250K...not!

This stuff is cwazy.

Honestly, I watch a movie on what I have and I'm blown away. I may have around 20k in my system and I can't imagine it getting much better, but then again, I'm sure it's all relative.

Tab,

I bet. Judging from what I've seen an heard, $20k is the sweet spot. At that price point, you really step up in performance from the lower budgets, but you won't be paying it off forever.

That CAT MBX XXX system still gives me tingles. Here's a rundown:

Front, Left, Center array (one of these for each channel):
  • 1 28mm Textile Dome Tweeter
  • 4 9" magnesium drivers w/ copper phase plug
  • 2 12" subwoofers
  • 2 21.5" subwoofers
The surround array consists of 8 of the above units. The LFE Channel then consists of 8 21.5" subwoofers and 16 12" subwoofers in addition to those included in each channel.

Total Cost on Speakers: $767,350.00. If you want to add amps (all 41 of them), a processor, DSP, and an engineering team, the price goes up to $1,325,350.

Crikes, speak for yourself. I only paid (read am still paying) $53k for my house in 1984. Since I'm 49, it may be forever before I pay off 20k for a HT setup in addition to my house.:p

Really? When you factor in the furniture in your room, speakers, receiver, DVD player, couch, wiring, decorations, paint... it adds up pretty fast. Seating alone in the average living room I'd guess could easily run a couple thousand. Add in coffee table, end tables, lamps and you got another grand or so. Entertainment center of any quality $500. Decorations (if you have a wife or a sense of style) can easily double what you've already spent. And this is just for an average living room, no HT equipment. I think people (read: my wife) would be surprised at how much they spent on any given room of their house much less their HT when they add up all the little things that went into it.

If you figure the room (the most important item) into the equation, no problem whatsoever dropping half a mil. Seriously, you can EASILY drop half that on a SOTA video system - no audio, no design, no room...

I don't know about a single theater - there are not a ton with the cash to spend, or the space, for a phenomenal setup, but there are enough to produce a market for it. I know on the commercial side I've worked on $1MM rooms before. Just got back from a $600K single room. But those include a bunch of plasmas and video teleconferencing stuff.

Realistically, spending that much in an 'average' sized nice theater (what 20x15 x 10 or so?) may be overkill and a bit tough to do. But, spending $100K is relatively easy. $250K gets you the really good stuff... then it's all through the roof custom one-offs.

I've got the perfect system for you...you don't need all these high-dollar speaker systems and amplifiers. Get the SVSound SBS01 speaker package at $1000, a yamaha RX-V 1600 receiver at $1000-ish, and my specially designed speaker wire isolaters for $75,000 each. These speaker isolators are hand-drilled out of a 2" long piece of exotic wood from the Dowel Rod tree, and polished with a natural finish. None of these sound-distorting finishes or veneers here! Just thread your speaker wire through these isolators and you will block the flow of free, parallel "noise electrons" from interfering with your sound.

Why spend more on speakers that will just sound like Bose speakers when you can buy low-cost speakers and have them sing?!

The speaker wire isolators have been proven* to make your speakers sound as though they are actually made of chocolate and velvet.

Act now, and you will receive the rare opportunity to purchase our critically acclaimed** subwoofer cable isolator for the low price of only $200,000! Don't miss the chance of a lifetime!

*Not proven in a normalized environment using actual human ears or testing equipment as testing environments or people change the quality of sound, invalidating the benefits of the speaker wire isolators.

Tell me about it. I haven't even addressed video or the room yet and have spent well over $100K... and that's just for 5.1 By the time all is said and done, I imgaine a cool quarter million will be gone from my accounts.

I've always been tempted to post a gag question on one of these forums, such as:

"Do you think I would get good sound if I used an RBH T-3 sitting horizontally on top of my TV for my center channel? The ends will stick out about 3 feet on either side. Will that be a problem? My L&R channels are T-3's, and I want to ensure good timbre matching. Thanks for any advice."
