So i have this Pioneer receiver vsx-819H
and i use my jbl 10" subwoofer with it. its passive.
and i have this problem that here is not plugins(or how you say it) for this passive subwoofer. and i put it to a speaker place and it plays little bit of those high frequences too (i know its not good for my sub). but i just wanted to know if there is anyway to make it only play low frequences or is there is any software or is there anything i can do about it? I really need help :(
Please help me and i know im noob

Modern receivers are designed to be used with powered subwoofers.

You need to connect an amplifier between the subwoofer output and the passive subwoofer. There's no way around this. Unless you have a spare one laying around (a receiver will do), it may be more economical to smiply purchase a small powered subwoofer.

MarkW is correct, but If you're really determined to use this setup despite what it may do to your receiver or sub, you could see if there is an option to set the crossover frequency to a lower value for the channel you plugged your sub into. It still won't sound great but it should knock out the high frequencies.

The opinion of a fellow newbie.

The advice is useless. There will be no appreciable power sent to the sub from the LFE out. The LFE out is a high impedance voltage source and not a power source. So it could only send a milli watt or two to the sub. He only has two options, a power amp, or a new sub.

He's not putting it in the LFE out. He's hooking it up to a speaker port. I did this as well with a junky old receiver an passive sub. It sounded bad, but the guy is just trying to use what he has.

His post is not clear to me. If he is using one speaker channel then that is a bad plan. He will drop the impedance dangerously on one channel. Plus he will not be able to balance the sub, it will be too loud or soft, not likely correct.

He will be better off not using the sub, unless he selects, one of the two options I gave him.

As evidenced by your last statement here, his first three words were 100% spot on. :D

I agree. I have two unpowered subs, and I use my older stereo receiver to power them. The crossover is set in the newer AVR. Peace and goodwill.
