I'm thinking of getting a 5.1 system but would like to get my mains first as they will probably cost the most and fill in the rest later. I will be using this primarily for movies/gaming and very little if any music. I was looking at some kef Iq5 and psb t45's but does anyone have any experience with these or any suggestions on something good or worthwhile for around $400-$500 for my mains. I will take suggestions for bookshelf speakers as well if they sound good, thanks guys.

I purchased internet direct speakers from Aperion. Auditioned a few other brands in store and at houses. Went with Aperion after having in my house. Free shipping both ways and 30 day audition period. One year trade up program also. Excellent sound, quality and customer service. I would recommend listening to as many as you can. BTW that is a good idea starting out with decent mains and working around to a 5 or 7.1 later.

If you want iQ5s I suggest you pull the trigger soon. They aren't going to be on sale very soon. They are a very flat speakers and have great sound IMO.

Is the place to get them or vanns.com

I do suggest you take a look at the EMP package at least.

Also take a look at SVS sound bookshelves.

I'd recommend getting bookshelf speakers and augmenting them with a sub. You'll get better sound without losing the low end. Plus you'll be able to use the LFE channel right away. Some competative brands are Axiom, Aperion, Ascend, Monitor Audio, PSB, Paradigm, and SVS. You could also check audiogon for used B&W, Usher, Warfedale, Quad, etc. There's plenty of brands that I'm sure I missed. You might want to audition several speakers locally so you can see what type of sound you like. That way we can provide better recommendations for you.

Either that or cut strait to the chase and buy Axioms. ;)
