I need advice on choosing budget bookshelf speakers - with a slight twist

Hi everyone,

It is obviously my first time, and first post on, these forums. I am quite an audio newbie.
For the last 10 years I have had the same pair of secondhand speakers and amp running my TV system. Recently, they broke.

I now have a replacement receiver. But, I am yet to get a new pair of bookshelf speakers. I will probably not have a sub for the foreseeable future... maybe one day - in 30 years - when I get paid more.

Now, I am aware that the best way to buy speakers is to listen to them and choose the ones that sound the best to you. Sadly, I live in the middle of no-where. There is a zero percent chance that I can listen to these speakers before I order them.

This leads me to the slight twist: I live in rural Australia, which means typical pricing is out the window. Out here, there is little choice in product and things that should be $50 can cost $150 and things that should be $350 cost $300. Resultant of all these factors, I would truly appreciate some guidance.

My budget is ~$300 AUD or under (~$220 USD). I have listed a couple of the more prominent speakers available to me below, as well as their prices. Of course, I can look into other recommendations and post their prices here. But remember, anything can cost almost anything here. So typical value/money ratios that people use for these recommendations may be completely busted.

A couple of sets I have found trawling the web: (Prices listed in USD)

AU stock

Dayton Audio B652-AIR = ~$131
Pioneer SP-BS22-LR = ~$177
Cambridge Audio Sx50 = ~$212
Sony SS-CS5 = ~$204

Imports (less desirable because of warranty etc)

Polk Audio TSi 100 = ~$180
Fluance SX6-BK = ~$187
Bic America Dv-62sib = ~$205

I will try to respond to any questions, but I do live upside down and so my timezone may be a tad polarizing.
Thanks in advance,
Will.

I would suggest AA monitors even though they are over your budget, if the importing and shippings costs aren't ridiculous. They are much better than any listed speakers. Can't really suggest anything in budget and say anything about your options as I dont't know enough about those speakers / availability for you.

Thank you for the input. I will have a look at those speakers and get a shipping quote -- although I do expect it will push them way out of my budget. :( Either way, I will keep them in mind as I move forward, thanks.
As for availability etc, do not let that stop you from making any suggestions, the Australian outback is a bit of a "wild-west" when it comes to this kind of product, and I knew it would be going in. Never know what is going to be available and what isn't, until you try and order it. :p
