Hey ya'll.
I'm new to audioholics and looking for advice for my first system. My budget is $1000 for my whole set up. I was curious to what set up would you guys recommend for an apartment, with room to expand my system when the time comes. Ive been looking at Elac's Debut B6's with a Denon receiver. Id like to expand to a 7.2. at some point. I figured $600 for speakers and $400 for the receiver. Is that reasonable?
Any suggestions?

I have no preference in speakers, I have had good luck with denon. I would recommend Accessories 4 less for a receiver and Mono price to get the most quality for your money. I am sure others will have an opinion as well.

YogiBizz,
I think your kick-off plan is reasonable, being in an apt I would delay getting a sub as you seem to indicate.
- The division of funds is about right. Denon receivers are a solid choice and Lewb's pointer to buying one from A4L is spot on.

With a $600 speaker budget, I would recommend only getting your front left & right speakers ATT and delay getting a full surround system until later.
- With $600 to buy only two speakers, you will have several more options, such as:
1) If you are set on ELACs consider their UB5s at around $500/pair.
2) Ascend Acoustics CMT-340s also at about $500/pair.
3) SVS has Prime Bookshelves also at about $500/pair.
The last two suggestion's companies have liberal in-home audition/return policies allowing you to potentially order both, test and compare, and then return the one that does not work as well for you.

There are many other excellent options, hopefully others will suggest some more.

Cheers,

Yeah, Ive been looking at A4L. And have seen a lot of other forums recommend them. I'm assuming theyre pretty reliable if so many people are baking them. Would you recommend buying speakers from them as well?

Also, ive heard good things about Ascend. Would you recommend this 3.1 compared to a say a pioneer PK 52 AJ 5.1 set up?

If $1000 is an upper limit, I would go about $250 on receiver and the remainder on speakers / sub. My first system was a RCA HTIB which sounded great in a 16 X 12 bedroom. I replaced my receiver (which was no more than $400 with the speakers / sub 15 years ago with a $250 Pioneer receiver and $200 sub and sounded great in 5.1.

I would enjoy what you can buy with the $1000 and when you are ready to upgrade, go from there
