I need a sub that not only sounds decent, must also match my interior design.

I am somewhat of a newbie to home theater/audio, however I am stuck on my components going with the design and colors of my house. It seems most things just come in black, which I hate.

I hope this dosen't sound too crazy, but it's just me. I need to find a decent sub that is in a cherry or light mahogany finish, to match or compliment my hardwood floors. I can spend up to about 500, maybe 600 dollars. Anyone have any ideas?

Hardwood floors = bad idea with home theater. If you are finding only black subs, you are looking in the wrong place, so it is a good thing that you came here :) I will second those mentioned by Mastersteven and Jaxvon, though AV123 has no subs in stock at the moment (keep an eye on their site, new subs are coming).

Before you pay full retail for any new audio gear, speakers & subs included check audiogon to see if somebody near you has what you want, the reason im constantly pushing buying used is that the mark up's on audio gear are out of sight.

Dont be afraid of buying used, warranty's are way over rated(except on tv's) & with the cash you save buying used you can get 3 to 5 times the system you could get from buying from stores of manufacturer direct.

Ive read a few of your posts so i know your just getting started in all of this, the best advice i offer anybody new is to buy everything you want used from audiophiles & to take it very slow, dont get impatient & be in a hurry to get the system finished, find what you need on audiogon & drive to hear it then pick it up in person,do not settle for something less because its convient.

From the home page use the search bar & enter the 1st 2 digits of your zip code, this will bring up everything for sale in your area, you can also search wider areas by using different zip codes.

Say the first 2 numbers in your zip are 56,after searching the 56 prefix search 54 then 57,searching this way will still show all the gear real close to your area.

Btw,i hate black too & no its not crazy to want your system to look the way you want it too so it will match your home decor.

Hey thanks, I have no problems with buying something used, especially stuff like this. I bought my Yamaha RX-V1700 used, it came with the remote, manual and box for only 500, the lowest I found on ebay was 700. I originally had about 250-300 for a receiver. I then got caught up buying 4 of them because I wanted to "test" them in my house. After I sold them, I made some extra funds for the purchase of the RX-1700, haha... Go figure.

I guess I'm addicted, I remember my dad giving me his Marantz receiver when I was about 7y/o and I have loved music/audio since then. I couldn't really pursue it when I lived with my parents, because I only had my bedroom. Then I grew up and had a car when I was 16, I really was into my car system, but now that I am the ripe old age of 19 lol, and have a house, I can do what I have always wanted to. Haha, I am rambling on I know, and I'm not even on pain killers...lmao...

Sub options

I picket up the SVS SB-12 Plus for my HT due to size and asthetic constraints. The real wood veneer rosenut finish looks great, but it is a bit over your budget.

AV123 has their UFW-12 sub in the b-stock and classified section pretty frequently for $600. They are out of stock now because they are moving thier headquarters. The UFW-10 also shows up in the classifieds regularly for about $400. They are also working on a 15" ported sub that will retail for $600.

Well, what about a KEF PSW2500 in cherry (or maple)? Or, a Canton ASD-250 in cherry? OR, there are interesting looking subwoofers in gloss black: KEF HTB2, NHT Classic Ten.

Acoustic Research has a silver sub that looks a bit deferent then the usual black box, I don't know how it sounds though. Aperion Audio has subwoofers that are available in cherry too.

I am back, and since Ive waited, that sub is not out of my budget, however the glossy look is just too much flash.

I need a more finished natural toned look so that it won't scream "Look at me, I cost a lot" lol..

any input on the Monster Subwoofer 200 ?

I just wonder how this will fare with my apperciaton for watching Tupac Resurrection, rap, hip hop, classic rock, Dinah Washington, Pavarotti and Mozart..lol
