I need a disposable HTIB

Looking for a cheap HTIB setup. I found an RCA one years ago for 60 bucks with a dvd player. That is the general price point I'm going for here under 100 bucks.

Don't need HDMI or even a dvd player, I could make use of them if it came with it. Just a receiver with RCA imputs, with a remote and of course speakers.

This is going to be used in my trailer in Iraq. I'm using computer speakers at the moment and I get annoying having to unplug everything to switch between TV source and an Ipod. Also getting pissed at having to get up to adjust the volume.

I figure I can sell the computer 2.1 setups (have 2 Iraqi brands and a logitech) to recoup the costs, and just sell the thing when I leave. It needs to last a year, I hope that isn't asking too much. Going to need an online seller of course. Thanks for helping me in my pursuit of low-fi.

EDIT: Also if any has something they wanted to offload and didn't mind shipping they can PM me.

Several possibilities.

For that kind of money and use, your best bet is definitively thrift stores, second hand stores, Goodwill stores, Salvation army stores, used on line audio items sites, garage sales and your next neighbour attic.
And, who knows, your brother's bedroom might just have what you're looking for. ;)

Holy quick reply. I never got the thrift store thing, same with pawn shops. Guns and stereos (i know more about firearms) seemed to go for more used than they did new. 10 year old teac receivers for 200 bucks and chinese sks' for 280.

Plus for the 2 week intervals I'm home, my wife will shoot me if I go on a quest for cheap stereo equipment.

Its a long shot, and I will survive without a remote (war is hell), but it never hurts to ask. Maybe some survivalist here wants to trade a receiver for a set of armor plates.

I guess the sounds of bullets flying by doesn't cut it for you. ;)

I bet you could find something like that on e-bay.
I have no idea why I did not think of that before. Maybe this will work, not exactly anything to write home about, but better than some of the used gear I've found.

I'll keep looking though, it'd be nice to find an onk or something for a lil more.

Having just gotten back from Iraq I would recommend waiting til you are there to buy anything. People will be offloading ALL of their stuff before they come home. Whoever you RIP with have a huge yard sell for the two weeks you guys are integrating.

That being said, just wait til you are there and shop around online.

Been on the ground for a year here, have one more to go (civilian). I did pick up some stuff when the last unit RIP'd, but so far haven't really found what I've wanted. Most guys justifiably give first dibs on decent stuff to other .mil guys.

I'll have the wife check out wally world (thanks jamie), if not I'll just ebay one of those RCA or JVC things.

Go on your local Craigslist website. You'd be surprised what people are selling for cheap prices or flat out dumping.

A man with good taste.

To: captiankirk28

Love these Waferdale Opus 2 of yours, they look simply gorgeous.
All your speakers are very very nice. And the Emotiva XPA-3 to drive the 3 front ones, excellent! And your SVS sub, another wise choice.

You got great taste my man. Bravo! :)

Cheers,

Bob
