i've looked around and the Dayton 5.1 Home Theater Package with 12" Powered Subwoofer gets all very positve reviews. the $200 price looks good also. anyone have any experience with these or similiarly priced system? recommendations are welcome.

i cant post up links yet but the Parts Express part number is Sku 300-696 or copy and past this after the parts espress dot com. /pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-696&vReviewShow=1&vReviewRand=1432555

i'm leaning towards this setup because i was looking for a sub and this dayton powered 12 seemed to fit the bill. it's just a plus that it includes center, fronts and surrounds for an extra $50 more. i think thats a real good deal going by the reviews. i just want to know what everyone here has to say about this 5.1 speaker system. anything good or bad, i don't need top of the line quality components. just as long as it works decent, i'm fine with it.

you could do much worse, but don't expect a lot out of the speakers. Well it's probably better than the TV ones lol.

Have you considered just getting the subwoofer and then grabbing those bookshelfs Sinister mentioned and then you get the 26 dollar satellites lol from dayton. Just don't gimp on the front and center. If you gotta have it now then go for it. Maybe it will be good enough.

Another thing to look at is the infinity beta series on ebay. You can get beta20s and 250s for under 100 and they have great sound for the money. HK sells them directly so it's really good deal.

Do you already have surround sound speakers? If so just upgrade your Fronts Center and Sub. Don't go for another HTIB

For a high quality 5.1 system at a great promotional price, you should look at the Audioholics store's EMP HTP-351 speaker set for $489. We just finished a thread on the EMP speaker December promotion which you might be interested in reading.

I suggest you start with your fronts not your subwoofer. Build it component by component.
