Naisphoo-Don't be sorry dude, every one starts some place!:D

The outputs he is talking about are on the back of your DVD player and the back of your Receiver. THey are called Analog outs. They are RCA jacks that are Right, Left, Center, Surround Left, Surround Right, and sub out.

Now...to listen to SACD you will need to hook your DVD player via these outputs. Your Receiver has the same inputs as well. There is more to as far as ajusting the outputs and stuff. But I do not have any SACD's and my system is not set up for it.

I am sure that more SACD Honchos will chime in any time.

Blessed,

Since the 2910 does not have the digital Denon Link and it cannot pass through the digital coax or optical connections, you must connect the 5.1 analog outputs from the 2910 to the 3805's 5.1 analog inputs in order to hear SACD 5.1.

thanks guys for all your replies
so there they are the 6 channel inputs our friend was talking about... i actually hooked up the whole thing right, according to what your guys said. I used 6 audio cables to hook up my 2910 to my 3805 and i still don't have 5.1 sound. Weird.... i'll try again

Maybe your 2910 is set for stereo SACD? Go into the player's menu and make sure that SACD set for multichannel.

Not that I have a 2910 and know what I'm talking about, but my Pioneer 588A is factory defaulted to stereo SACD and I had to manually change it to multi-channel SACD. Hopefully your solution is as simple.

cheers,

no no no, on the front of the reciever, there is a button(should be) to switch to 6 channel inputs, from digital inputs. I bet thats the reason why its not working.

DVD-A's Hi-Rez MLP 5.1 tracks do not pass through the Digital Coax or Optical(unless you have the 'LPCM [44.1KHz/48KHz]' Downsample turned 'ON' in the DVD players 'AUDIO SETUP', in which case you will get a downsampled stereo signal through the Digital Coax or Optical connections), only the DVD-Video section (which will be PCM 2channel or DD/DTS 5.1) of DVD-Audio's will pass Digitally. Unless you use the Denon Link you still need the 6 Analogue connections between DVD player and Receiver (and the receiver in 'EXT IN' mode) for DVD-A's Hi-Rez tracks. You also need the player set to play the Audio section of DVD-A's (this is normally set by default), under 'OTHER SETUP' and 'PLAYER MODE' select 'AUDIO'.

Confused yet? Its nowonder DVD-A and SACD have not taken off as well as they thaught it would:rolleyes:

Hope this helps, cheers:)

Thank you for the correction. You're right, I was in a hurry and I have been using the Denon link since day one with my 3910 so I forgot all about the DVD-A's connectivity restrictions. I will edit my post so it won't confuse more people.

naisphoo,

I am not sure about the 2910 but the 3910 has a "Super audio setup" button (just check the 2910 manual, it has the same setup button) to select SACD mult-channel, SACD stereo and CD. Also, I think in the setup menu there may be something you have to do as well. Your best bet is to read your manual in more detail in case you may have missed a simple step. Aside from that, as Sheep mentioned, on the 3805 side you have to select "ext. mult-channel in (something like that)" but I think you must have done that already if you can listen to DVD-A multi-channel.

No problem PENG, BTW have you compared the sound quality between the 'Denon Link' and the analogue 'EXT IN'? I had contemplated upgrading my 2200 to the 3910 so I could use the Denon Link with my 3805. But Im waiting, among other things, for them to allow SACD over it before I do any upgrading.

naisphoo, have you got it working yet?

cheers:)

No, I have not. I could not hear any difference between the D-link and the anolog two channel SACD so I assume I wouldn't be able to hear the difference between D-link and Ext in multi-channel analog neither. I read a couple of reviews, one being the What Hi*Fi magazine November issue. They picked the 3805/3910 the winner of their Mega test hi-end category, over the Arcam AVR300/DV79 pair. They obviously like the sound quality of the pair. The latest D-link version upgrade has been available for download from the Denon website for quite some time now. I would think that any 3910 manufactured after April 2005 would have the version 3 D-link and should have no problem playing multichannel SACD via the link.

The 2910 has also received excellent reviews. I am sure naisploo will figure out how to get it to play multi-channel if he spends a few more minutes on the manual.

Nashiboo- I have the same set up.
On the front of the receiver there is a button, I forget what it says, I think its something like pure direct?- try it, it should switch to analog 6 channel sound. Make sure the 2910 is set to play SACD as default. Its a little tricky. Let me know if it does not work, I will go home and check it :)
