I am in the process of finishing my basement and I am about to drywall. I ran 14 g wire to 5 blue boxes for speakers for the living room surround, But I also want to have an additional 4 speakers in the rest of the basement to play music when necessary. So in other words I just want to either run 5.1 for surround sound movies or run music through all 9 at once. I've tried to do research on multi room receivers and speaker switches, etc and I am just lost. I also don't understand if series or parallel is what I need, etc. I don't need anything crazy, just music to entertain a few people seldomly.
If you could recommend the receiver, speakers, etc that would be great.
Ps I have a Denon receiver upstairs and I hate it. It doesn't work with hdmi outputs to my blue ray, xbox 360, Xbox 1, Apple TV , etc. It only works with directv

Not sure what your budget is but I have an RX-A2030 (Latest model is RX-A2040). It accommodates 9 channels into 4 zones. I'm able to control the entire receiver from my phone with the yamaha app. It has a 'party mode' which drives all channels in sync. It has netradio, pandora, spotify, etc capabilities as well. Very versatile.

How much are you looking for? And would you just run a seperate wire to each speaker so they are all on different channels?
