I just became an Opa (grandfather)

My youngest daughter delivered her first born, a strapping 8lb11oz boy today around 8:45am this morning with a mop of bright blonde hair. Everyone is doing well.

Its also German. My parents immigrated to Canada from Germany after WW2.

My father in law has my kids call him that sometimes. I'm in a very German town with a very German last name and very German roots. Never called any of my grandparents that. He's mexican. He's also a crazy man, which makes for a good Opa.

We immigrated from Austria and called my dad Opi. No grand kids yet but my daughter has been talking about it so hopefully in the next few years. Is your daughter's family living in your area?

I can distinctly remember my own parents marveling over my own kids as babies, saying "If I had known how much fun being a grandparent is, I would have skipped being a parent, and gone straight to being a grandparent."
