Oh JOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally got my new TV. After going back and fourth between the Hitachi 57s715 and the Toshiba 57HX94 (for days) I went with the Toshiba.

I'm quite happy with my self for not giving in to temptation and getting the LCD or DLP set (very close) I think they need more time to grow up :)
I feel like I got a smashing deal. I talked the place down to 1900.00 and free 2 year warranty :) must of been my good looks ;)

The two sets are awesome and the decision was hard to make
but the Toshiba had a slight edge over the Hitachi.

Bottom line.......the Toshiba had a better picture.
the images have far more depth and the color is richer and lots more detail and the anti glare is a nice touch. Both units have the 7 inch guns and 5 layer lens system.

.If anyone knows something I don't about this set please let me know cause I have 30 days. So far I'm very happy. :) :) :)

Nope. But, if you are a serious videophile, get an ISF certified tech to calibrate it.

I second the motion for the ISF...worth having it done. The tech has special equipment for the job.

You need to check it out in your area, if there is one nearby. Most likely not. But, it is worth it if you are serious. Not cheap

Around $ 300. That's what I paid in Montreal (Canadian dollars) in 2002.

Why bother with ISF calibration if you are happy with the picture? I have seen many instances where people were no happier after having their set calibrated and were sorry they spent the money.

Also, you should have your set several months before you even consider such an expensive propositiion. The set needs time to break in. Personaly, (and remember I said personally) I think ISF calibration is a waste of money. I am 100% happy with my Hitachi the way it is and absolutely don't want it changed in any way. After adjusting a set with Video Essentials or equivilent you should have a very very nice picture.

even if you don't go to a pro, it would be a good idea to check your system against the THX video standards that come free with movies like the Star Wars trilogy.

isf

I have seen an isf calibrated tv and on hd it didnt make much of a difference. However, on any non hd source the difference was night and day. Much more focused picture and better stretch modes on the tv. The tv needs about 100 hours of break in time before calibration.

Oh, and by the way, Hitachi make the crt's for about 95 percent of all projection tv's on the market right now.

I have seen an isf calibrated tv and on non hd signals the picture was night and day better. Much more focused picture and the stretch modes are better too. There is a guy in my area (phoenix) that calibrates for 500 dollars. He is generally regarded as the best in the business.
