Gas is a bit too volatile for that I think. They are afraid if it did ignite it would take the windows out of houses up to a mile away.

I think the trick now might be to remove the contaminated soil before it gets into the water supply which doesn't look like it's anywhere near the surface. That area needs a sprinkler system bad.
