I don't need a new remote...

...but I'm gonna get one....

Ok, I know some of you guys love URC and dislike Harmony but I am sticking with Harmony. I will move my beloved 659 to my bedroom so I want a fancy one for my main room. The only thing I dislike about the 659 is the layout. The FF, REV, PAUSE AND STOP buttons are at the very bottom of the remote so it is easy to drop it if you are trying to use these with one hand.

I only need IR and when I get a dedicated room with my gear in a closet, I will get a RF remote at that point.

So which one and who has the best price?

I just picked up a second Harmony One at Circuit City since it was 30% off, may be up to 40% off now... I can't say enough good stuff about this remote. Unless you need RF, then you should strongly consider this remote, it works really well, and it has no problems in the dock, since it was designed very well. Plus being able to add your own icons for your favorite channels is really nice, there is even a website that has a lot of icons for different stations, I think it's iconharmony.com

slap me if this is too off topic, but when shopping for a remote, what do you do about those darn scientic atlantic cable box yellow square, green triangle, and blue cirle (or whatever) buttons?

The screen prompts you to press them for certain operations, mainly for record fuctions, etc., so how do your families adjust to having to use other wrong color, wrong shape buttons?

just curious - I haven't jumped to a nice third party remote yet because of this worry...

I know you don't want to hear it but I'm going to say it anyway.

I have had both the URC MX-810 and the Harmony 880 for about a year or more.

The MX-810 is a way better unit. The construction quality is better, programming is better, better ergonomics and I like the button layout better. The only downfall is it does not have a cradle.

The 880 hangs when I try and update it and I have to reset/safe mode the thing everytime I want to do anything with it. It does have a cradle but if you don't put it on just right it does not charge properly.

A few seem to be happy with the new Harmoney One.

I want the Harmony One to replace my 880. I think they improved the layout 110% with the One.

You can get a harmony one on ebay for about $175
I read on another forum that someone just picked up the harmony one for $125 from circuit city on their closeout sale.

I have to harmony one and it is fantastic. Extremely easy to set up, and my wife can easily navigate through my system!!

You see those on the LCD display as "soft" buttons.

You won't be dissapointed with it. I got mine on Monday from CC for $186 after tax, and I had a little money left on a Visa giftcard from Christmas, so I put that towards it. It may take you a little bit to get all the additional buttons setup just how you like it, especially for controlling specific devices like your receiver.

I gotta agree, if you don't need RF and you want a Harmony, the One is THE ONE.

Well the CC in my town was out of all Harmonys. I tried to go to BB and push my luck talking it down but couldn't score. I decided to make a 20 minute drive to a podunk town that had a CC assuming the population out there wouldn't even know what a universal remote was. Sure enough, they had 10 "Ones" and a load of other models. I paid $149 for the One.
