Here are a couple more. Enjoy!

Cheers,

PS: I forgot to mention that the 170's are built like tanks. Much better than I anticipated. They also are heavier than you may think. ;);)

Phil...the 170SE's are fantastic speakers! Congrats! I used to run them as mains before selling them off for the 340SE's. Try them in two channel stereo with your subs. They sound almost as good as the 340's in that role.

Enjoy!

How heavy did you think they were?

It's 5/8" MDF with no bracing(unless you want to count those little triangles glued in the cabinet corners).

Now, it is a very good driver set you get, and the crossover design is very good on that model. You get much more performance compared to most things around that price bracket. But they are radically improved if given an audibly inert cabinet system. :)

Maybe his not feeling well had something to do with how heavy they appeared. You, of all people, should know how one's mind plays tricks on them... Jk... Bill.;):)

PS: Feeling any better Phil?

Thanks Gov for the tips. However, for now my plant is to use the 170's for rears. I only have room for a 5.2. Otherwise, I would have gotten a set of the 200's as well. Thanks also for your kind words. ;);)

Hi Jamie. Thanks for the warm wishes. Hope you get to feeling better as well. Yeah, I am pleased with my new speakers even though I have not gotten to mess with them much. However, that will change rather soon once I get back to my normal self-whatever that is! :D:D:p:p:D:D Hope all is well my friend.

Hi Chris. My point regarding the weight is that the 170's are bulky. Perhaps, I could have used a better term, but I was and still not feeling too well. Hence, the 170's have a stocky feel to them and are squatty speakers built like tanks. In other words, 170's feel as though they weigh more than they do or at least more than I envisioned them to be. I am also very aware of your skills as I have seen some of your work. Who knows, down the road I may just let you modify mine for me. ;);)

Thanks Billy for asking. To be candid here, not really. Somehow, I have also managed to pull a muscle in my right shoulder. It hurts like h*ll! I don't take pain too well.:eek: Appreciate your concern my friend. ;);)

Since you use the 340 for mains, it would seem to make more sense to modify those, no? The surround speakers are not very critical compared to the L, C and R. And for the vast majority of music, only the L and R are important.

As for ME doing any work on them, well, maybe middle of 2009. I am neck deep in trying to get projects done that were due 2 months ago. I just do that stuff in my spare time, and I don't exactly have a sufficient shop/work area to do the stuff efficiently. At this rate, I won't get my new main speakers done for myself until the end of 2009, if I'm lucky....

Chris, you do make a good point. I also understand about having so many things to do. Many things to finish here as well. If I decide to do the improvements you will be the first to know. Right now, still trying to get everything set-up and fully calibrated. It may be a bit yet given the holidays and all. Have a Merry Christmas and a great 2009!

Cheers,

Phil
