I deserve a beer! Room Update

I've earned a beer. Right now I'm having a perfectly chilled Sam Adams Winter Lager, while watching a beautifully contrived CGI documentary about the lives of Sperm Whales on the Discovery Channel.

So I'm a nerd, SO WHAT?!

Well, its been one heck of a week working in my room this past week. This week saw me reassembling the wall panels, running the nylon threading to prep for the wire fishing/ pulling behind the walls, wiring/installing the panels, and putting the equipment back, and begin testing and calibration of the room. <--Well as much as I can do without the new surrounds. I guess I got a bug in my system, because I really burned the midnight oil this week.

Lessons learned:
1. You can't assume the condition behind the walls. Several walls had random 2x4's in them. They weren't fire breaks, I don't know what they were. It's almost like the were going to be used for something and just left there. One wall had a slope to the poured foundation wall behind it, so the depth changed as I went up. I ended up having to change how I ran the subwoofer cable from over the top, to under the carpet.

2. When painting wall panels to match the rooms decor, remember to pain the screws. I'll be mocking up a styrofoam holder and painting the screws to match the panels. I know, call me anal!

3. Nothing makes the time fly while working through the wee hours of the morning, like Itunes, the Richard Pryor Anthology, and George Lopez.

That's enough of me rambling, here are some pics to update you guys.

Looks like it was some thirsty work there! But it's coming along beautifully!

Looks Great

Really nice job. :D
I used the same wallplates only painted black. They do make work easy when using banana plugs.

I hope you labelled the wires. Never fails that you'll end up disconnecting in the future to move/replace something. I learned the HARD way.

(BTW: that sperm whale show was cool.)

You're correct those are fireblocks in the walls.

Yes label those cables.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess I have more work to do in the future.

I labeled the cables before I attached/ wired the wall plates. But I took the labels off as I did each one. I guess when I replace the white screws this weekend, I'll put a label on each wire.

I recalibrated the projector and leveled the speakers and used the receiver's built in YPAO equalization and wiring tests. for the fronts and presence speakers to test the wiring. Everything seems to work fine. The receiver always detects my Ohm Walsh's as being out-of-phase, but I used Avia to test phasing and everything was correct.

One interesting bit, I guess because this room has darker walls, then my last room. (all white) I had to calibrate white and black levels down a bit from their previous settings.

I never got to see the end of the Sperm Whale documentary, Wifey wanted to watch the last of The Amazing Race. <-- I never saw it before, but after that night. I'm glad I've never watched those reality shows. What a load of garbage!
