I cut the cable, but I didn't shoot the Deputy.

I cut the cable! It was ~$60 a month. I ordered an Antenna for $36 with rave reviews from Amazon and will be using Win7 MCE + Netflix + Hulu Plus.

They asked why I was leaving and just let them know that while the programming is nice, I like what I had, it just wasn't worth $60/month. I wonder how many times this happens before they go, well we could do your same tier for $40... Must not be hurting because they didn't try to keep me as a customer. Interesting.

I almost did it, but my apt windows are faced wrong direction and as result I get only about 1/3 of the OTA channels :(
For clear HD OTA you need line of sight from antenna to the transmitter

$60 gets me 2-at-a-time unlimited blurays, + several BD purchases if I wanted them, per month. I was a good boy for most of this year in not buying, but I just pulled the trigger on Troy (director's cut), Zombieland, and Book of Eli. $10, $12, and $11 respectively. They should all have excellent PQ that cable could only dream about, with lossless audio to boot.

Oh yeah, no commercials, not even those things that pop up in the corners for their other shows.

Of course, the antenna gets me all the national stuff already for free already, un-re-compressed.

Yep, with another $45 (outside of Netflix/Hulu Plus)per month I could get a lot of used DVD/BR/CD's.

It will take 20 years for the eventual shift that we seem to be on the leading edge of. Cable will be just like big content: Slow to adapt. Adapting poorly, or all together dying on the vine.

If Insight ever goes channel a la cart then I would reconsider. Some base rate like $10 for local channels and then $1.50 / month for channels like HGTV, FoodNetwork, FX, Bravo.

My 800/100 5 Static IP and four phone lines for the business side is $320/month.

Netflix/Hulu Plus/OTA really takes care of my programming desires. The rest I can expand my Movie and Music collection every month.

I'd like to dump my dish. I'm paying about $85 a month for basic cable after they tack on all the HD and DVR fees.

I was all set to switch from DirecTV to Dish Network when I found out that I was locked into DirecTV for 2 years!!! Funny, I don't remember being told that when I signed up! I might switch anyway and just pay the cancellation fee. Dish Network will be $55 a month for the first year for the same programming.

FYI: Everything 'material' is in the contract/paperwork that you signed. If you didn't sign anything ask Dish to provide the contract.
