my pioneer vsx-d906s has no power and no red light indicating there is any power it was working the other night but i think i hooked it up wrong, it would cut out and power off so i went sleep woke up turned it on and a grey flash lit up inside did i just mess up my reciever

Odds are you're shopping for a new receiver. It always pays to double and triple check your wiring. Those manuals they provide are useful.

...oh, and ALWAYS turn off the unit when kerfutzing with wires.

Seriously, I have no life.
The speaker wires are about the only ones that could cause major damage but faulty house wiring could cause major damage. Audio and video connections should never cause this, even if the cables are in the wrong jacks.

Most likely yes....

I would return the receiver. In my opinion all modern receivers should have adequate safeties.....

I am speaking from personal experience (not with audio equipment) but idiot proof is required now a days! :D
