Humming noise from Denon avr

Hey all, earlier today i was sitting about two feet from my receiver which i had turned on, and noticed it was making a humming noise. I power cycled it, and it became a little quieter but it was still a noticable hum. Only loud enough to hear when i was very close. On the same note, my B&W subwoofer was also making a slight humming noise from the amp when it was turned on.

At the moment, I do not have my components hooked up to a power conditioner/surge protector. They are connected directly to the wall outlet, not the greatest idea but i've been waiting to find a good deal on a nice conditioner. Would the lack of a power conditioner be the cause of my issue?

Just want to make sure its not my receiver and subwoofer amp!

Sounds like a mild ground loop issue. Unhook your cable or Sat line and see if it goes away.

Is this new or has it always done this?

Does it do this with all sources? If not, which ones cause it?

Well to be completely honest, I have an older philips receiver that does not hum. I tried all sources on the denon and they all make the hum. The hum is not coming from the speakers, but from the receiver itself. Same with the subwoofer, it is coming from the amp, not the driver

I can hear most receiver hums from two feet away but not Denons. Denon AVRs are among the quietest, even quieter than some high end amps. I suggest you try plugging it in an outlet that is fed from another circuit. If it still hums then also try disconnect everything except the power cord and see if that makes a difference.

This usually indicates a mechanial malfunction, like a loose winding on a transformer, but the odds of both going simultaneously are astronomical.
