Humming along with the oldies

 Well. I just hooked up my new Cary Cinema 5 and 6 and lo and behold - HUM. I tried to isolate the culprit but can't seem to yet. I think that I know a possible problem but want to have someone check my logic.

The hum is:

1. Present only when the PrePro is on.
2. Present on all inputs except the 'digital coax inputs" - these are not the cable TV but the alternative to TosLInk.
3. Does not vary with volume
4. Does not change at all when I unplug - DVD, HDTV Cable box, or Turntable
5. Does not change at all when I unplug the HDTV Cable connection to the wall.

All that leads me to the thought that it is the ground in the wall plug or reversed polariity. I don't have a polarity checker but that is my next step - unless someone tells me differently.

Also, I did have a line conditioner in the system but removed that (no change in hum) and plugged everything into the wall.

I assume a Cable TV ground isolator would not help since disconnecting the cable and the elctrical connection to the cable box made no difference.

Hope you can help since this is very frustrating.

well i suspect it is 60hz hum. Do you know what that sounds like? if so is it that? another thing how are all your components plugged in? all on the same outlet?
