Solid film from Scorsese. Very well done visuals, excellent use of surrounds on the dts-HD MA track, and solid performances. It is an odd one in that it almost seems like a kids movie, but it is fairly heavy and very melancholy (signature Scorsese?). The story is interesting and well presented and had a lot of good concepts and nice nods to the beginnings of the film industry. I found the brooding nature of the story almost outweighed the hope of the main character though, leaving a sort of unsettled feeling through the whole thing. If I had to compare, I'd say something like the feel and tone of Sweeny Todd without the music. It manages to set itself apart though, with the story being the most interesting part IMO. Definitely worth a rent, probably won't make it to my collection.
