I have a huge fetish for Onkyo products. I just bought a laser disc player made by them, I didn't even though that they made one. Turns out its just a rebadged Pioneer, but most of there items are outside of the recievers.

This will now make seven items that I own by them and am now looking at a cassette player for the hell of it.

Too bad they never made a VCR.

There are two other things I plan to buy from them and hopefully I'll be done. The BD-SP807 and the PA-MC5500 if it ever hits the states.

Any one else have a problem with brand loyality like this?

Some device you can watch spin and music comes from it.
My favorite was always the Nakamichi Dragon. Back in the mid-70s when I was 12 or so, I'd marvel at this player. I believe the price at that time was around $1,500/1,600. I recall they had a feature that would physically flip the cassette around - as a form of auto-reverse before others caught on to just flipping the read head.

Back to the Onkyo discussion ... I've derailed your thread enough. ;)

I would have nightmares about that thing if I was a kid. Thinking it would come alive to get me.

My rule holds. You will find someone who will be a collector of almost any item made.

I've known collectors of cheap record changers, double decker buses, the oddest tractors, 78 rpm gramophone needles, and the list is endless.

I collect pens. But not the traditional expensive pens. Quirky pens that hold some sentimental value to me. :)

Not quite correct, just an Audio legend. Nak had head reversing decks, as did others....the Dragon was their flagship so the tape flip was to keep head alignment pristine. Or so I remember from the marketing blurbs.

That is correct the Dragon turned the tape, and it was a packet of trouble.

The reason it did that is that you can not get optimal results in both tape directions without turning the tape. The reason is that the skew of the tape changes, and you can not get perfect azimuth alignment in both directions. So you want to avoid reversing cassette decks.

If I was back in Florida along with my table saw, jig saw, router, circler saw, belt sander that would not be a problem...oh crap, my ex-wife has all that.

No, She sold it all for $20......;) I don't really stay on one brand. I just watch reviews, audition products, and keep an eye on the forums and then make a choice.

I'm not particularly loyal to any brands of a/v equipment. I would like to collect discographies of certain music labels or artists though, but don't have the funds.

Maybe take some Onkyo subwoofer cabinets, brace the living heck out of them, and then install some nice drivers, coupled to either a plate or outboard amp. :p However, all of your guests will forever rave about Onkyo subwoofers to the world afterwards, so I'll leave that choice up to you. :p
