HTPC digital sound?

Hi all:
I am a newbie here.
I am considering building an HTPC around a Radeon 9800 all in wonder card.
My satelite provider has a optical digital output on the HDTV reciever that i would like to utilize. Ultimately I want to pass the digital signal through the HTPC and into my Arcam Amplifier for decoding and Output to speakers.

I want to be able to record the HDTV signal along with the 5.1 Dolby digital sound onto the hard drive to watch later ( or maybe write to a DVD)

Anybody else having these dilemmas?

Is there a sound card out there that has a SPDIF input?

Thanks
|Steve

There must be. For sure my Audigy LS doesn't have an SPDIF input.

But I'm just wondering if a digital satellite feed would not have some kind of encryption to protect the signal precisely from what you want to do. :D

The satellite receiver will un-encrypt the signal and pass it out the digital out. There are plenty of sound cars that include digital inputs; Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and I think the Audigy 2 ZS. The SoundMax integrated sound card on my Shuttle has one too.
