HTIB and blue ray/hd dvd

I'm planning a new home theater in a few months and have been looking at HTIB systems in the $500 price area. With blue ray and HD DVD technologies I do not want a HTIB with a dvd player, so I guess I'm better off getting everything separately. My questions are:

Blue Ray or HD DVD...which one? Will one of them go the way of the Betamax, or are both here to stay? Are there any significant price differences? Will there be more players that will play either format?

Next question: Are there/will there be any HTIB systems WITH either blue ray or HD DVD?

I have heard no word of a HTIAB with Blu-ray or HD DVD with them.

There is no way to discern which format will win the war at this point. We may know more by mid to late next year.

I don't know how to edit my OP so I wanted to erase my question about which is prefered...hd or bd. I've read other posts that answer this question.

Yeah, you can't edit your post after a certain period of time (approximately 15 minutes or so).

I am pretty certain there has been no talk of a HTIAB with an HD DVD or Blu-ray player in it. Most likely scenario is you won't be seeing any of that until the format war is pretty much decided.

Are you asking if one or either of those formats will have an inclusive HTIB? Or, if they will play with one? If the latter, why not? Don't expect hi performance from an HTIB, but it may be satisfactory. After all, for some, they don't agonize over max performance such a Le Mans or Indy, just enjoyment

I doubt you will see any HTiBs with either until one or the other is more likely to succeed and that may be a year still... I personally don't feel the typical HTiB would be truly capable of giving you the full experience of either anyway.

While Philips (or was it Sharp?) showed a HTIB system with Blu-ray last year at CEDIA (not sure about this year), it was about $3K or more, and wasn't that impressive.

HTIB setups are generally considered 'cheap' and of lower quality. It is far better to get good separates, and then add the gear you want later on.

If you ARE looking into a HTIB system, then make sure it is one that uses industry standard connections. Something like the Onkyo HT-SR800 is a great value for under $500 and you can add Blu-ray, HD DVD, or both later on as you want.
