Hello All --

Building my first home theater and I have compatibility questions.

The room is a 16 X 12 dedicated home theater. The AVR will also power a 2nd zone is a separate room with its own volume control.

I have purchased the following:

AVR - Marantz SR5008
Speakers
  • MartinLogan Motion 40 for frong
  • ML Motion 8 for center
  • ML Motion 4 for rear
  • Dynamo 700W sub

I also have a panamax M4300-PM.

Is the ML 4 Ohm speaker with the Marantz combination sufficient?
Do I need to purchase an amp to properly power the ML speakers and if so what is your recommendations?

Without being able to see a graph of resistance for those speakers or knowing the nominal impedance it's hard to say. I'd say the Marantz receiver is probably fine as long as you aren't into prolonged listening at higher than reference levels or make a habit of trying to appreciate the subtleties of test tones. I've got the 6008 with 6 ohm speakers that I'm pretty sure dip down to the 4 ohm area at some point in the midrange. It's a lovely combo.
