Let me know what you think. Here is what im working with

Center Channel: B&W HTM-61
Mids Rear Speakers: B&W DM302 (soon to be replaced with ds-6 dipoles)

If you have room for it, check out the Elemental Designs A7-350. That is 1200 exactly and shipping is free. That will destroy you, it is probably the most output you can get for 1200.
You can also get the SVS PB12 Plus. It's a nicer looking sub but won't be able to generate as much SPL. It will still be a beast though.
I would also recommend the Epik Phoenix, but Epik isn't taking any orders for awhile, they are backlogged. I would imagine they will start taking orders again after the holiday season.
You can also get the Rythmik D15SE, which would have as much output as the others, but will make up for it in sound quality. It also looks the nicest of all of them. Plus, it's the least expensive.

Those are what I would consider for 1200, however you could also have dual subs for that much. Two SVS PB12-NSDs, two Hsu Research VTF2.3s, two Outlaw Audio LFM-1 Plus's, or two Elemental Designs A3-300's would also make for a good subwoofer system.

The biggest difference the you'd find with direct mail vs big box subs is bang for the buck. For example you could easily get two SVS PB-12's for the price of one Velodyne DD-12. The performance and flexibility of purchasing 2 subs would be more than offset the bells and whistles associated with the Velodyne. I don't think the performance to cost ratio would even be close.

Any Chance of going DIY?

Buy a couple of these drivers.... for $250 each
http://aespeakers.com/shop/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=67&osCsid=242b1e70cfa6727c6d1684815a5bc3b0

Build a Dual Opposed box that looks like this with the drivers on each end like a seaton submersive.

Buy a Behringer EP2500 amp for power and you have a sub that will blow away almost everything you could imagine for less then $1000.00
