I did not see this info in any of the other Pioneer A/V Receiver threads, I received my copy of Home Theater magazine and they testing the VSX-72 receiver. Very favorable review, here are the power measurements:

5 Channels continously, 8 ohms, 0.1% distortion: 143.7 W
2 Channels, 8 ohms, 0.1% distortion: 175.6 W
2 Channels, 4 ohms, 0.1% distortion: 212.1 W
2 Channels, 4 ohms, 1.0% distortion: 261.3 W
s/n ratio, A-wtd, @ 1W: 102.8 dB

This is a huge difference compared to the all channels power testing performed by S&V on the VSX-74. Unfortunately HT Mag doesn't really explain how they perform their power tests, but I do know from their testing of other receivers that their results are usually fairly close to the tests performed by other mags.

HT Mag may be our last hope for un-biased reviews on a mass print...everyone else seems to have gone the way of Consumer Reports with half assed reviews that are rushed.

So, are there any plans for a review of the Pioneer VSX-72?

Please check S&V test what % they used for distortion to test at. I bet it wasn't 0.1%. or that 1.0% into 4 ohms. Of course you will get more power out at higher distortion levels.
Just be sure they are testing this or any component the same way, same distortion, same frequency bandwidth, etc.
