HSU VTF-3 MKII vs. SVS PB12-ISD

I am hoping to get some usefull advice on choosing between a HSU VTF-3 MKII and an SVS PB12-ISD. The SVS wins on price, namely being $100 cheaper. I also like the fact that the SVS sub is made in the US, but only if this equates to better quality. I beleive the HSU would eke out a win on performance, since it has a tunable port configuration and a marginally higher wattage amp (350 vs. 320w). I've read a number of positive reviews of the HSU by reputable print and online magazines. I've also read numerous review of other SVS subs but never this particular model. The only head-to-head test I've seen is of a STF-3 vs. the PB12-ISD at Home Theatre Forum, in which the SVS edged out the HSU. Based on this review, I'm thinking that the VTF-3 would potentially win out over the PB12-ISD. Any thoughts? I'd love to hear from anyone who has heard both subs. Thanks!

You can't go wrong with either sub. If it's not practical for you to order both, compare them at home and return one before its trial period, my best wishes to you on your difficult quest.

It took months before I decided to purchase the VTF-3 Mk2 to complement my Paradigm Studios so I know it's not an easy clear-cut choice even with the few quality subs to choose from. :)

Thanks TedMJr. BTW, which Paradigms are you running? I just bought a pair of V3 Studio 60's and a Studio CC470 Center to go with a Denon 3805. How do your Paradigms pair with the Hsu?

The Hsu blends well with the Paradigm Studios (transparent, so to speak). Similar to when compared with Servo 15 v1.

Studio 40s v3 (front)
CC-470 v3 (center)
SA-30s (rear wall)
Hsu VTF-3 Mk II (max-extension settting, near-field placement next to couch at rear wall)

Pre-ordered Yamaha RX-V2500 (arriving very soon) to replace NAD T741

I have not heard the SVS PB12 yet, so I can't comment on it, but I have heard only good things about the SVS products (except their size). I have a VTF3 MKII. I place it on its side, under an end tabe (WAF), with the driver facing the sofa. Hsu Research confirmed that placing the sub on its side is ok. It's in a corner between a sofa & a love seat (perpendicular placement), and the Hsu is excellent for both movies and musics. I have Polk RTi speakers, and the Hsu blended in very well w/them. After calibration w/Sound & Vision Disc and a Rad Shack meter, the volume is slightly less than 9 o'clock. (0 volume at 6 o'clock), the Hsu can shake the pictures hanging on the back wall, and I have a large room. Can you order both and test them out in your room? They both have 30 days return guarantee, I believe.

TedMJ2, it's good to see another San Diegan on this forum.
