you'll need something bigger for 5400 cu/ft..... or go with (2) pb-12's.....

The SVS would probably be better for that sized room, but I also believe the HSU is ported as well. But I think you would either need to run duals, or get a bigger sub to accomodate that much space.

Any reason why the VTF2 and not the VTF3? The three has more power, deeper extension, and is still $10 less than the SVS after shipping.

Is the 5400 cubic foot all listening area? I mean, are you trying to get enough bass to cover the whole room, or is your listening/HT area only part of that space?

If that room was mine, I'd be looking at 2 subs to cover a subsection of that space and probably at least 3 to cover the whole room.

The answer is YES. Either one will do fine.

You can't cover a "subsection" because bass doesn't care what you are trying to "cover", so the entire immediate space needs to be considered. The wavelength of low bass is longer than the vast majority of rooms with a sub in them. You do get immediate bass, but real performance needs to consider everything.

For a room of that size, I would go for a VTF15h or PB12 Plus at the very least. Rythmik FV15 would also be worth looking into. A VTF2 or PB12 NSD won't cut it, especially if you are sitting in or around the center of the room.

Fill a subspace?...just like smoke knew to stay in the "smoking section"? :)

Yes even if the theater area is 2000cuft but is open up to 6000cuft you need to get subs that will fill 6000cuft in order for the 2000cuft theater area to sound good.

I agree that jumping up to the VTF-3 MK4 would be a good idea. I think you should still plan on a second VTF-3 down the road though. With the more powerful VTF-3 you will be less likely to feel the bass is lacking until you get the second one.

We have to qualify a bit: what Audioholics consider "enough" bass is more than the average person is looking for. Reference levels with headroom to spare and extension to 20Hz minimum, so you will want to factor that in. I've heard an older PB-12 in a room that large and it did well. I had a PB-10 in a room that large and it was pushing it, but still did not disappoint. The Cadence CSX-12 MkII also did surprisingly well in my previous room which was right around 5000cf. It didn't have the same kind of output as my Empire though :D As you see in the recommendations, and if it were me I would too, a room that big I would step up to a 15" sub. So the question is, are you an audioholic? :D
