Hsu Subwoofer and Audyssey Calibration

I'm a happy owner of Hsu VTF-2 Mk5 that I have integrated using Audyssey XT. As per the manual, I set the sub to 0.7 Q and EQ1 before calibration. Since music is my priority, I much prefer the overly dampened sound at Q 0.3. My question is, is I'm changing the response curve after calibration, isn't this messing with the cuts and boosts that Audyssey is making?

It would seem better to start at the setting you wanted, but Hsu says this can result in Audyssey increasing the gain too much on the sub.

Thus far I've only used 1 port open mode, but I'm curious about experiences using both open or sealed. I assumed 2 open was for additional volume, but sounds like it may also work better for mid bass clarity and lower distortion.

The Q control isn't making a large impact versus the kind of correction that Audyssey is doing. Technically it does knock the sub out of calibration, but realistically, not enough to matter.

2 ports open will curtail deep bass output a bit, but it will reduce distortion in the shared ranges with either 1 port open or sealed. Make sure that when you unblock both ports that the EQ switch is set to EQ2. The mid-bass clarity isn't really affected by the operating modes very much, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Thank you. I've only used 1 port open, but dropping Q to 0.3 really tightened things up for music. I'll need to give both open and sealed a try since I'm mostly listening to music. 1 port and 0.7 are fun for the occasional movie though.
