HSU STF-2 in an upper level apartment

I have been building an extreme entry level HT/music system and am down to the subwoofer. I started with an onkyo 606, have added a paradigm cc-150 center and managed to get a great deal on some paradigm mini monitor v.3's which I have already fallen in love with.

The final piece that I am looking at now, is a subwoofer. I have a 14 x 20 x 8 room, although only about the 14 x 14 is the listening area. I am going to use the system 50/50 ht and music, and I listen to everything musically, literally.

I did some research and had thought that I would purchase the HSU STF-2. It's right on the upper edge of my budget and I had read some phenomenol things about it. HOWEVER, I didn't realize that it was a downfiring sub. I live on the 17th floor of a high rise in Miami Beach and want to be somewhat neighbor conscious (there is a concrete slab between floors, but still, I can here my downstairs neighbor's definitive technology system when he sets it loose) Plus I have a 2.5 yo that sleeps in the other side of the condominium a couple of rooms away, and I am afraid that too much vibration will give him nightmares. Would I be better off with a front firing sub? If so, any recommendations?

I was really set on the HSU and have not found any other subs that have reviewed this well.

It really doesnt matter which way the sub "fires" the sound and vibration will carry regardless. The best you can do, is get the sub that fills your room (call HSU or SVS and see what you need for your room size) and tune it on the soft side.
