Any of you use HSU research center channel speakers?
I have 2 Polk R40's for fronts, 2 big *** Sony's as rears. No current center.

I see the HSU Research center is a great price. 2 6.5" woofers, and a horn tweeter.

To get a Polk Audio CS2 (which has the 2 6.5" woofers) costs upwards of $300.

What are your opinions on how this speaker will sound?

How would this speaker sound with my mixed setup?

Oh, running an older Sony (receiver) STR-DE675 (110watts per channel).

I would suggest gettin a center that matches your fronts to keep a constant tone going from left to right. You can mix and match with the fronts and center but it might sound off due to different speaker timber.

That's timbre :) And yes, having a severely mismatched front like that would be a bad thing unless you intend to replace the Polks with the HB-1s also.

Sony's rating of 110w for the 675 is WAY optimistic...

Thanks for the spell check :).

Something else to note is wattage per channel isn't really that important with most speakers. As long as the receiver can push the speakers comfortably.

I would also recommend getting the matching CS2 recommended by Polk audio. I run a pair of Polk RT3's for my mains and I purchased a less expensive non-matching center for my system and I've regretted it ever since. Now I'm married, 2 kids, doctor bills, etc, who knows when I'll have cash to finally get something I should have spent a little more money to get the first time.

Nothing beats doing it right the first time!

Timber is spelled correctly, it just isn't what he meant :) Though matching the appearance of the wood is usually desirable too ;)

Thanks for the help.
I will go with either a CS1 or CS2 center channel.

But... I can't help myself when I hear B & W either the VM1 or LCR3. Both are good price, and sound great!

What do you mean STR-DE675 isn't rated at 110W/channel? Thats what the manual says.

The way wattage ratings work are to the benifit of the receiver and not related entirely to actual amplification purposes. In the end wattage is close to the bottom of things to look at when searching for a receiver that is capable of pushing your speakers anyways so don't get caught up in it.
