Hsu Research VTF-3 HO with or without Turbo?

Tomarrow, the FedEx man is going to hate me because he gets to unload my 100 pound subwoofer :D My question is for those that have the Turbo on thier Hsu subs. Do you need it? I bought the most powerful sub they make, with the Turbo for a medium/large room. It will not be in a corner, as it's my bedroom, and all corners are taken, and it would block doorways. I'm about 30% movies, 70% music most of the time. I like my music "warm" on the bottom end.

All comments welcome!

Hi Gimpy,

I would say that with pipe organ music or movies with ultra deep bass content, then it would be a good idea to use the turbo. Also, to really get the most out of the turbo, I would recommend trying out an MBM-12 at some point in the future. This way, you get improved deep bass performance without sacrificing dynamic range.

Sincerely,

I've got two VTF-3HO's w/turbos and an MBM-12.

The turbos do make a big difference in bass response and extension. You will notice the change.

The MBM will add a more local and "tactile" bass when placed close the seating position. At first I was a major sceptic, but now I can see were splitting up the bass frequencies between two subs and having the "mid-bass" sub place close to the seated position has benefits. The "true sub" can now do what it was primarily designed for, deep bass extension. And with less effort since the workload is reduced.

Thank You Peter. I'm not sure I have room for a mid bass module, not yet anyways. I'll set my preamp crossover to 80hz, try it without Turbo, then with, using the same source material.

I've read up on your MBM 12 and it sure would be nice to have :)
