I have a 27' x 12' room with a door size opening a third of the way down one sidewall and the last third of the room extends to a kitchen area. I am planning to put a sub in each corner behind my TV and audio rack. Given the size of the room would 2 Yamaha YST-SW315 10" be ok or would 2 HSU VTF-2 MK2's be better?

As I have a HSU VTF 3 mk II in a room larger than yours which opens up to another room 10 X20, both with vaulted cieling, I would think 1 VTF 3 would suffice.
You probably should contact Hsu and ask them. They have been known to sell less to people who thought that when they called, needed more.

Def. 2 VTF-2s.

I would rather have that then 1 VTF-3.

Even ONE VTF-2 would outperform the 315...
Yeah I think so as well.

Why not even a pair of STF(1,2, or 3)
I read the review on the STF-1 (which is only a 8" sub)
As you can see by the review.

(on the STF-1)“Sensational sub...31.5 Hz...106dB....easily surpassed the $500 NHT SW10...as well as the $600 Velodyne CT-120...and was superior to a $500 Axiom EP-175...had no trouble eclipsing the performance of the pint-sized, $995 Sunfire True Sub Super Junior...”

I happen to have dual VTF-3 MK2's. (might be selling 1)
You probably could get away with just one of them, granted this will depend on your listening taste and style.

That is a pretty big room. I had the VTF-2 in my 19x20 with high vaulted ceilings and open to the kitchen, and it wasn't enough. Two should be plenty though. You can always try one and see if it meets your needs, then add the second one if not :)

Yes, but however even if your 19x20 had a 7.5 foot ceiling, compared to the OP 27x12. Your room would still have more cubic feet. And the fact that you have a vaulted ceiling and open to kitchen, well that would be much more cubic feet.
Depending on taste and style, he may be able to swing just 1 VTF-3MK2 (or equivalent SVS/Axiom/Velo./etc..)

But that Yamaha - won't even come close. (IMO)

I'm pretty sure 2 VTF-2s would have more output than one VTF-3 though, if output is the goal. A single VTF-3 might be enough though, like you said, based on what how much bass is desired (and for many who haven't heard a sub like this, it is usually WAY more than they expected :D )

I have not heard a powerful subwoofer before, I am upgrading my home theater to go with a new JVC RPTV and am getting a Yamaha 2500 to replace a JVC HTIB set up which has a subwoofer of minimal effectiveness,
so this will be a big step for me and I suspect an even bigger one for my wife and our siameses'

That being the case, you'll probably only need one vtf 2 for awile. After a few months of the wow factor, it'll wheres off a bit. Then get the 2nd. It takes time for the wife and animals to settle in to the sub-world.
I 1st got the VTF 3 I thought my wife was going to shoot me. Hell I thought I'd have to shoot myself. It was way more than what I had been hearing at the local shops.I had no idea. But as time has passed, wife and animals are used to it now, it's time to shake things up again and add that 2nd sub.
I just can't see needing another VTF 3, maybee a STF model.

I will be one to add... the yami will not cut it. I only got mine as a temp solution. It bottoms out hard for HT. half volume during war of the worlds....it was more like war on cheapo subwoofers. HSU all the way....or maybe a couple PB10's:p

It's honestly no comparison. Just like you've heard from everybody else, get one of the Hsu subs.
