Hello to all from Australia,

I’m a newbie to to the Audioholics space therefore pardon my inexperience on the questions i ask on this thread.

I have recently purchased a home theatre package which includes a projector (Sony VPL E45S), screen and av receiver (Yamaha RXV683) and speakers (Bose Acoustimass 10 series V)

The home theatre system is to be installed in 2 weeks therefore I’ve been conducting some research online on the Bose and the AV reciever.

The room where this will be installed is 5.7m X 4.6m. My problem is that I have to have wall mounted front and rear speakers due to the designed of the room. I’m confused on the Bose after reading all the comments on forums.

I would really appreciate your recommendation on better alternatives to Bose and the reciever if need be. I’m happy to spend a couple of hundred more on the speakers and the reciever individually.

Thanks
Sumit

G'day mate! Welcome.

Many here aren't enamored of Bose for the spec and cost. I tried briefly with an early Acoustimass system and got rid of it almost immediately (but sold it to a friend who uses it still, some 20 years later, or is it 30 now? yeesh! ). What they call a "sub" is particularly pathetic IMO. I've seen measurements of frequency range gaps between the bass module and satellite speakers, too. Generally Bose doesn't allow for proper reviews without threatening lawsuits from what I've read so hard to get good information on them let alone measurements. They tend to have relatively high price tags for the performance in general (speakers and subs let alone electronics). They aren't always true components either so changing them out down the line can be an issue depending on model. I haven't looked up your model nor am familiar with it.

Really not familiar with your particular choices available, I know several brands of speakers I might recommend wouldn't be available in Australia. For some of the major brands I'd also think your pricing is higher there from many comments I've read from Aussies. So some input from your side as to available speakers and sub brands would be a good thing. Note the only good reason generally for same brand of speaker and sub is matching aesthetic, often speaker company subs aren't as good as those from the sub specialists.

When you say you have rear mounted speakers, is that literally on the back wall rather than the side wall where surrounds normally go?

Nothing particularly wrong with that model of Yamaha avr that I know of, altho I know here at Audioholics the A860 didn't fare too well. Speaker choice has more to do with choosing appropriate amplification than the other way around, otherwise an avr is mostly about connectivity/feature set. You have 4k tv? You want Atmos audio down the line (ceiling mounted surrounds essentially)?

What kind of AUD budget we talking about here (if you just say dollars or use $ people will think USD).

Cheers

Hey Mate,

Thanks for the speedy response. I have answered your questions below:-

"Really not familiar with your particular choices available, I know several brands of speakers I might recommend wouldn't be available in Australia. I believe most brands are available here however Klipsh and Paradigm seem to be the most common ones after Bose. Unfortunately you're correct , we pay a higher prices due to our location in this world. The Bose Acoustimass and the AV Reciever is costing me about $2000 USD.

"When you say you have rear mounted speakers, is that literally on the back wall rather than the side wall where surrounds normally go?"

I'm going for a dolby atmos system, with a 5.1.2 set up. All front and rear speakers will be mounted up on the wall. Rear speakers will be mounted up at the back, Atmos will be mounted on top of the couch and the front speakers will go on the either side of the projection screen.

This system will be part of the home theater system with a projector along with Sonance C6R atmost in ceiling speakers.

Surrounds in a 5ch bed would be to the sides, not the rear wall particularly altho somewhat behind is fine. Details/pics of your room/seating might help for advice. Where on the ceiling are those Sonance going? Might want to review setup guides like this https://www.dolby.com/us/en/technologies/dolby-atmos/dolby-atmos-home-theater-installation-guidelines.pdf

Have you listened to the Bose, Paradigm and Klipsch speakers? That's really the best way to get an idea of preference. Be specific with models, brand alone doesn't mean a lot. Which specific models fit in your budget there? Personally I'd lean towards Paradigm overall, but some of the latest Klipsch (RP series) seem to get better reports on being less harsh (as I've found older series of the basic Klipsch home theater lineups but I've not heard all models either). Paradigm has a few decent subs, Audioholics just reviewed a pair https://www.audioholics.com/subwoofer-reviews/paradigm-defiance-x12-v12. I think SVS subs are available in Australia, they're pretty good value here at least but can't think of another brand that's readily available there that many of us here in US have choices of.
