Do you want to enable wireless with your router because cable company modem/router doesn't ? If so - you'd need to change your router to work as access point.
The person who said anything about bridging is an idiot

BoredSysAdmin...just the guy I was looking for. :D Couldn't think of a more perfect name for someone who could help me with this issue lol.

Anyway, the guy probably was an idiot. All I want is for the modem/router to only act as a modem, and the separate router I have to act as a router.

Something like this: http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/965

Seems kinda complicated. I just want my wireless n speed and coverage range benefits!

Notice how it's says on the link you provided - "To Configure Your Router as an Access Point"

You need to find a manual for YOUR router and configure it as Access point
No need to worry yourself with cable company router - it's already configured.
Check IP address of your home computer - if it's 19.168.x.x and most likely its 192.168.0.100 or close

If's completely different you'll need to configure your router as a router.
Again - nothing to do with bridges :D

Alright, sooooo...no such manual exists talking about how to set it up as an access point.

If im understanding this correctly, i go into the crappy router/modem they gave me and uncheck "Enable Wireless Access Point" and "Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)" right? Then just connect the other one?

ah nevermind, a rep at another forum told me its not possible to use it and that i should request a stand alone modem and that if they give me problems he'll handle it. cool i guess.

As I said before -
1)Forget about you cable company equipment
2)Check your computer IP address and tell me it so I suggest further action accordingly

Sorry, didn't catch that, thought you just meant for me to check it and not report back! It's 107.z. Btw, I've always wondered...is it safe to give out your ip address?

Not really, you should edit your post before it's too late :D Now I know you are from Tampa :D
That means your cable company "router" doesn't actually do much of any routing - working as a modem only and just gives you external IP address. That also means you can not plug in multiple computers to in.

The solution is a simple one - forget about Access point stuff i mentioned before.

Plug in your router's WAN port to network port on your cable modem. connect your pc to LAN port of your router.
Configure the wireless settings on it as desired.

All your home computer should have IP addresses like ones I mentioned earlier - 192.168.0.xxx

go into your modem/router configuration and turn off it's wireless.

plug your wireless N router in to the the modem/router using any of the LAN ports on your N router to any LAN port on the modem/router.

go in to your N router and configure it as an access point and turn off it's routing and DHCP functions, forget about its WAN port.
