How well would these work as surrounds?

I think these would work just fine, assuming you have a good way to mount them. I really like Polk speakers. They really are very efficient. A friend of mine and I tested my BIC DV64s and his Polk Monitor 50s on the same receiver and the Polks were a lot louder at the same volume level that we tested mine at.

What are your other speakers? Are they Polks as well?

More times than not Louder will not mean better, just louder.

True. The way he listens to his speakers I can't even tell if the audio signal is a quality one --> I just have to cover my ears.

Right now I have some crappy Bose 2.0 bookshelf speakers for surrounds from like 1992 that I found laying around my parents house, so I assume these would probably be an upgrade. I'm just kind of looking at these because my mother and my gf keep asking me what I want for xmas even though I keep saying nothing. My mom says I have to have presents though because my brother still believes in Santa, so w/e.

Anyway, the system I have now is pretty much a hodgepodge of components I've found laying around. My loud speakers are Pioneer CS-G911, I got them for free, they are in pristine condition but all i really know about them is:
4-WAY TWIN-BASS,(2)10""WOOFERS,3.38"" MIDRANGE,(2)2.5""TWTR but they sound okay, so I'm going to keep them for now because I have no money. College does that to ya

I figured getting these would probably be smarter than trying to get better loudspeakers which would probably be more expensive to upgrade.

I'm living in an apt right now, but I'll probably only be here for another 6-8 months. Hopefully I get in to a grad school *cross fingers* so I don't really feel like mounting them by drilling into the studs, maybe in my next apt:p.

The M10's are a versatile speaker - they will work fine for 2.1, front LR and/or surrounds. They are a bigger model tho, so you want to have them on a stand or something that can support the weight.

Polks are typically, a bright speaker with fairly dynamic treble ... depending on their crossover setting you will get a good amount of clean mid bass. A separate sub will make them shine.

That's just becuz you've acclimated to muddy bass! :p

But seriously, I think that some of the difference between how my polks responded (compared to your BIC's) was your crossover and speaker size ... or are they still exhibiting the same quality at 70-90hz with the small setting?

Haha! What makes you think I was referring to you KASR?! In all honesty, deep down I am jealous. I did set the crossover to a higher frequency and overall it is an improvement. I think the real reason it seems quieter is because of the difference between compressed and uncompressed audio tracks that we talked about at work. I'm watching Star Trek on Blu-ray right now and it has some wicked LFE.

I think that if you can get some background track to play while you are in your OSD, I bet you'll be able to tweak it to perfection...I just know it.

By all means, if someone wants to buy these for you, let them! (especially at such a reasonable price) You will be happy with your purchase. The mix of speakers may sound a little strange but I'm sure it's better than nothing. Maybe you can try and sell the Pioneer towers and get another set of these Polk bookshelfs for your front L & R. Do you currently have a center channel speaker right now?
