I am have recently begun to upgrade some of my HT components. Up to this point, I haven't had any devices that use HDMI, however, my DVD/BluRay and TV use HDMI.

My receiver is an Onkyo TX-DS787. Even though it's an older amp, it's still good enough but obviously it doesn't have HDMI inputs. This receiver has component and optical.

I am trying to figure out how to set my new system up with this receiver. Here is my equipment:

Receiver: Onkyo TX-DS787
DVD: Oppo 981HD
Blu-Ray: PS3
TV: Panasonic TH46PZ85U Plasma

I am assuming the DVD and PS3 will have to be connected to the TV via HDMI and an optical cable OUT from the TV to the receiver. I also need advice on good HDMI and Optical cables.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

Hi Bluezman,
I'd run the optical 'out' from both the Oppo and the Blu-Ray to the optical 'in' of the receiver.
