I just got the Panasonic 50" TH-50PX60U and Oppo 971H.
After hooked it up, it works but picture as not clear as HD cable channels.

I hear about calibrate, what is it doing?
There are adjust for brightness, contrast, sharpness, on both DVD player and TV. do you adjust both of them or adjust one then leave the other as default?

I have no knowledge about this HDTV and upconversion dvd player. can anyone help me how to give best video and audio please?

I got the Yamaha Receiver HTR-5950 and Klipsch kg 5.5 (old) below are links to all my products.

Thanks.

A few things.

1. Be sure that you have set the player up so it is outputting 1080i or 720p over the HDMI connection. If you are not connected via HDMI/DVI you will not get upconverted DVD video.

2. DVD video is 480i and must be processed up to HD resolutions. This is NOT the same as starting with a HD source such as HDTV. Don't expect HDTV from a source that is not HDTV.

3. Calibrate your display! Avia or Digital Video Essentials are two popular calibration DVDs that you can put in your player and will walk you, step by step, on how to best setup your display without paying the money for a professional ISF calibration.

I just bought one of these Pannys and found a setup suggestion from another forum. These are the suggested settings after an ISF calibration:

Picture Mode: Standard
Picture: +22
Brightness: +8
Color: -1
Tint: -4
Sharpness: -14
Color Temp: Warm
Enhanced Black Level: Off

I adjusted my set like this and am wowed by the picture. (I'm playing DVDs and Dish HD through the HDMI input via my receiver) :D

BMXTRIX,
On my dvd player, I can't find the output setup for 1080i or 720p yet. Let me check it again this afternoon after work.

Geno,
I will try it tonight. The set up you mentioned is for the Plasma, how about the dvd player? keep picture set up as default?

Thanks.

Tampa,
The component video output on that player does not include the good video processing and upscalling chip. You will need to connect HDMI directly to the TV for the best picture quality. Use a digital optical or coax cable to connect audio to the receiver.

I got the picture look great now, but I still don't know where is the set up for HDMI/DVI output. where is it?

For the audio, It was very good until yesterday when I turn it on. The sound was horrible. sound like broken speakers..... I can't get it back to where it was before. I don't know what my motherrr in law and kids did to it.
The OPPO has options for Speakers and Sound. It has too many options. What is your setting for your best audio so I can copy from you? thanks.

Currently, I only have 2 Front large speakers, that is it. No center, no sub, no rear...... Thanks.
