Amateur here stumped at the end of a multiroom/multizone setup seeking advice. Help! Sorry for the long-winded story, but I wanted to give you the necessary details.
I just moved, and the previous owner must have been an audiophile because the house came with 9 sets of stereo speakers throughout (3 outside) wired to a basement closet, and a theater room with 2 front ceiling speakers, 2 rear ceiling speakers (nothing floor level ) and 1 subwoofer wired to the TV console. The previous owners took everything else, though.
Being a musician, I’ve always wanted to learn more about sound reproduction equipment and so I decided to take on the project myself for fun. My initial requirements for the setup were: 1) ability to control everything with an iPhone, preferably an app compatible with Apple HomeKit/Airplay 2 or something similar that can I can add other smart home capabilities to; and 2) spend less than 10K. (Several AV companies I called wanted 20K+ )
I did some googling and found Sonos, but their equipment seems to be sold out everywhere. I didn’t want to wait for restock and so decided to go with HEOS. I bought 2 of the Denon HEOS Drives (8 channels each) to power the stereo speakers from the basement, and a Denon AVR-X4700H to power the TV room. My thinking was that adding 2 front and 2 rear speakers would play Dolby Atmos when combined with the preexisting height speakers, but after reading around on the internet I can’t tell if this is true.
How should I finish the theater room in a HEOS friendly way? Is it true you can’t pair the Denon Home speakers with their HEOS AVR (I.e. buy 5 speakers and assign them as the font R/front L/center/surround R/surround L channels)? I did read that the Denon Home 550 sound bar can pair with wireless sub and 2 stereo speakers, but this would bypass the AVR and leave the height speakers out. Any ideas? I’ve come too far to give up now… Thanks!
