how to dimm a passive subwoofer

I am thinking about buying the Sony FR9 HTS, because the price is quite resonable, maybe even the FR10 with the wireless rear speakers. I am moving quite often and hate the wiring also I am not a "hear everything" guy ;)

But the system has as it seems one big disadvantage, you cannot control the subwoofer in any way, neither the power itself because it is passive nor the bass/treble settings on the amplifier (these controls are missing at that thing). But currently I live in an apartment and I can imagine that a always on full power working subwoofer would bother my neighbors. Is there a good (and hopefully cheap) way to reduce the power or isolate the subwoofer somehow?
