How would i go about this, i'm a complete novice.
Also im after a sub no bigger than 10 and around 100-150£ i will buy used, what would you suggest.

Also is there a way to let the sub handle the low frequency and not the speakers.

Thanks alot.

You will probably need to connect your source to the subwoofer, and then use the line level output on the subwoofer to go to your powered speakers. This means that you need a subwoofer with the appropriate connections. And if the subwoofer does not filter its line level output, you will be sending a full signal to the powered speakers.

This also means that the volume control on the powered speakers will affect the balance between those speakers and the subwoofer; that is, the volume control on the powered speakers will not affect the volume of the subwoofer, only the speakers. You will need to use the volume control on your source (presumably, it is your computer?).

Directly from the Audioengine site:

If I have a subwoofer of my own, how would I use the A2s with it?
Connect the line-level output from your subwoofer into one of the A2 inputs. Very simple.
The only way to adjust the levels to match the two would be with an SPL meter and test tones, adjusting each with the other off so you don't skew the SPL level of the other one.
