How to Connect AV Receiver to iMac 27 5k Retina

Hi to everyone, I would like to ask a question that Can we connect Denon AVR X-2000 receiver to iMac 27 inch (as a monitor). Actually I have a small hi-fi system that includes Denon AVR X2000, two Dali Zensor 1 and Dali Zensor Vocal and a SVS PB-1000 Subwoofer. And I want to connect my 27 imac to this system as lcd screen while watching movies through media player which is connected to av receiver. Is it possible or not. Thanks in advance.

You can't use iMac as a external display as it lacks proper video inputs, but you could use ether a) 3.5mm mini toslink to regular spdif cable or b) MiniDP to HDMI cable to output audio (or in case of MiniDP port video also) to your denon avr

I expect no difference in quality of audio.

I understood that no way to use my iMac screen as a monitor for my receiver to watch videos but can use for audio. For listening music how should I use MiniDP to HDMI cable. I tired it but I cannot achieve, what settings should I make both in my receiver and iMac

While I applaud the creative thinking, I am typing this reply on my 27 inch iMac with the beautiful display that nobody can use as an external monitor. One of the design decisions I had to make when I chose the iMac over the Mac Pro Tower arrangement with an external cinema display, was this sort of stuff. I decided to go iMac and have never regretted that choice for my habits.

You could use your iMac as part of a Plex arrangement. Put your movie library on Plex. Set the iMac up as a plex server. Then use a phone/tablet to choose your movie and then choose the iMac as the display device for the movie. Plex has two versions : a free version and a version that costs something like $10 bucks a month on a month to month setup.

There are several other software solutions you could implement that let you choose the iMac as the display device. All require some work. All these type of solutions have a certain pain-in-the-ass factor.
