How to conect a Subwoofer that as no LFE or RCA Input to an LFE or RCA Input on Reciv

My friend recently Give me some surround sound speakers but the subwoofer as the wire input conection.. and my receiver as the RCA type input or LFE Input. what can i do ? the guy in radio shack told me that an Y Audio Cable will work he told me to cut the rca connectors so that i can only see the wires then conect the wires to the subwoofer and the other end to the LFE or RCA input on the receiver,. HELPPPP!!!!!!

No, it won't work.

What is that sub?

Does the sub have a power plug?

If it has speaker outputs as well as inputs you might be able to use it, but not as an HT sub.. Otherwise you need a power amp between the LFE out and your sub.

Most likely that is a passive sub. You need an external amp and connect the RCA to the amp and the amp's speaker terminal to the sub.
