Hi, I am new to DIY, No electronics background, and websites confuse me and go way over my head. I have a pair of 3 way speakers I want to rebuild, and re-engineer the crossovers, so I need help to figure out how to test individual drivers. All I have is a mulit meter. I know there are 1st order, 2nd order, 3rd order and 4th order crossovers, it gets complicated very quickly. Lets start with how to test the tweeter, midrange and 10 inch woofer. I am clue-less but very enthusiastic and I really want to learn, but my background has no science in it. I know there are ranges of sound in hertz like 20 hertz to say 200 for the woofer, 200 to say 2000 for midrange, and 2000 on up for tweeter. I know how to use a soldering iron and have already switched capacitors and inductors. I also read on line that capacitors in micro farads filter out lower frequencies whereas inductors in millihenries filter out higher frequencies, in order to protect the drivers, but I am not even sure if this is an accurate understanding or not. I would appreciate to learn about what equipment I would need and how to proceed. I think it is part science and part art. I know this is a very complex and difficult task and I am just overwhelmed not knowing what to do. I listen to vinyl jazz and blues mostly. thanks in advance !

Welcome to AH, and welcome to DIY speaker building. (Note that there is a DIY forum here at AH http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/audio/diy-corner-tips-techniques.22/)

If you have no electronics or science background, and the speaker building websites seem over your head, you do have some learning to do. Not impossible, but it will be work.

Start off by reading some. Buy or borrow a copy of Speaker Building 201 by Ray Alden
https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/books/speaker-building-201-by-ray-alden/
It should answer a lot of beginner questions and point you in the right direction.
