How to adjust picture on new Pioneer Elite 151FD Plasma

I just had a new Plasma TV installed... the Pioneer Elite 151FD. I mostly watch Blu-Ray and TIVO HD programming. It looks great out of the box, but i notice that there are many many adjustments that I can make to the Contrast, Brightness, Color, Hue etc, as well as even more detailed color settings.

1. I note that many folks post on the forums about using "break - in disks" and-in pre-break-in settings for the first 150 hours. Yet, the user manual for this unit says NOTHING about break-in procedures. I typically watch the TV for 2 hours per day, and play no games on it. How important is the break-in....?

2. Also, I note that there are published detailed settings for all of the parameters. Should i use these, or work with a disk such as the AVIA to establish personal settings for day and night?

3. The Plasma comes with a color sensor and an "optimum setting". is this useful or to be ignored?

4. Finally, it offers many noise filters such as such as a 3D filter, a Mosquito filter, etc. Are these useful?

Thanks so much.

I would use D-nice's settings. I used them on my 1150 and they look great. You can always check them against one of the test discs to see how they compare in your room. See here for the settings. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1053444

This guy knows his Pioneer plasmas. As for the break in, I asked a Pioneer second tier tech guy and he recommends it, even though as you said, it's not mentioned in the manual. I didn't use a break in on my set though. You should be OK if you watch a variety of material and not the channels that have the info line at the bottom all the time such as ESPN or the news channels.

You bought a GREAT set! Use D-nice's settings and enjoy it! I may try to sell my 1150 and pick one of those up at Tweeter since they are going out of business. 20% off right now. Another ten or twenty and I'm in if they have any left! Enjoy!

DNice's settings are a good starting point, you can run one of these and get good results. If your not sure about entering the service menu to change the offset values, dont...just stick to the adjustments made thru the home menu.
