Hi, Im new to these forums and a noob when it comes to audio equipment and was wondering if I should connect my rear speakers via the subwoofer which is then outputed to where the speakers would be connected on my receiver or should I directly connect the speakers to my receiver and output my subwoofer through the LFE output on my receiver. I can't understand what difference it would make. Thanks for any help.

Yes, this is the way. But, you also need to designate using a LFE speaker in your receiver setup menue. But, it is also helpful to read the manuals that came with the components.

There is a special .1 ch encoded with low frequency material.
And, only the signals intended for the channels in the bspeaker outs for them.

How else a sub may be connected comes in a later lesson:D
