In addition to my home theatre, I have recently gotten into two channel audio with a new 40 WPC integrated amplifier. I am using this to drive Definitive Technology BP8's. They are rated at 91db sensitivity and are rated to handle 20 -200 watts/channel. This setup is very clean and sounds good to me but I know that I can pick up a used 125 WPC amp on ebay for $250 - $300 and use my Rotel Integrated RA-01 as a preamp. The 40 WPC amp will drive the speakers to a very loud volume but my question is whether I can expect better sound with more power or is this a waste of money to prove the misconception that more is better. Thanks for your feedback.

Unless you are overdriving your 40wpc amp (clipping) it will sound pretty much the same as the 125wpc amp.

Frankly by todays standards 40wpc is a little light. It would be desirable to go for the 125wpc amp for the extra headroom it will provide. It certainly wouldn't hurt to have the extra power in reserve.

The extra power on those speakers would definitely help out. You will experience a more dynamic presentation as well as slightly increased output.
