While we all spend a lot of time dicussing our gear, we must admit that the music is the most important thing we own. All that hardware is useless without the music and it says a great deal about who we are. So how much do you have. Express it in terms of inches of redbook CD including jewel box or album count as you prefer. I know there are other ways to measure but live with it.

I have roughly:

84" CD,SACD,DVD-A (about 143 albums)
72" vinyl (370)
65" cassettes (110 or about 220 albums)
300 iTunes songs (about20 albums)
30 DVDs (half movies half concerts)

The totsl is about 750 albums.

I currently have:

505 CDs
2 vinyl albums (soon to be digitized and transferred to CD)

I'm not sure what you were thinking in terms of converting albums to 'inches of CD'. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

At least in my collection factoring in the multidisc albums I have this was a close approximation if you include the thickness of the jewel box. If you have a lot inches is a lot easier than a count.

I see. I just happen to know exactly how many I have because I spent the last year entering all of them into a database and saving the wavs on an external hard drive.

And who says music sales are dying...

Myself, I have just under 500 CD's & about 150 albums collected over the years. It includes everything from Abba  to Zevon with some classical thrown in for fun...

Now I have a buddy who has been a music nut for 30 years, he has over 20,000 albums & 12,000 CD's  you would not believe what his house looks like. But this is the same guy who has a $5,000 set of head phones... ;)

Probably about 400 or so. Now, if you count empty jewel cases that I have lost the Cd to, then about 450. And before you dog on me for losing CD's, I maintain that my wife is 99.99% responsible for the lost CDs. She seems to borrow them to take in the vehicle and then they somehow vanish off the face of the earth? I can't figure it out. She has about 10 empty jewel cases in her car at all times with no CDs? She does not lend them out, she just loses them. Also, by the time I am actually lucky enough to get any of them back, they look like they have been through a rock tumbler. Scratched to hell and skip terribly. I probably RE-BUY more CDs that most people. At least I keep up with remasters this way.

LOL! I feel your pain. I just tried to reorganize the CD mess and ended up with a 3-foot high stack of empty and mismatched jewel cases; she sometimes seems to think any old jewel case will do--you can imagine my reaction going for a nice John Lee Hooker session and finding an Alanis Morriset CD in it.

Only 4gigs of photos? Heck, I shoot that much in a couple of hours! :p I think I'm probably at 20-30gigs. And growing at an alarming rate.

Oh, and on topic, about 500 CDs/SACDs/DVD-A/cassettes.

rapidly approaching 1000 CDs (catalogued in FileMaker Pro database)

vinyl I actually don't have logged, but my collection would occupy about 6 or 8 linear feet

40 GB of MP3s

never bought a cassette

not nearly enough music DVDs (no DVD-A or SACD)

~300 GB of music files compressed lossless.

~200 CDs.

I am not counting cassettes.

I am slowly ripping all my CDs to my harddrive using lossless compression. It is almost impossible to find the title you want hunting down physical CDs.

Lately I am into classical. Right now I have 5 versions of Beethoven's complete piano sonatas. :D What madness.
